THE PROCESS OF COMMISSIONING A SCULPTED PORTRAIT OR LEGACY STATUE
It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to have a small sculpture made of your grandchildren playing on the beach or a commemorative portrait sculpted of a loved one who has passed away. Maybe you want to commission a one of a kind statue for your estate garden. Or maybe you have a creative project that you need the skills of an artist to bring to fruition. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story can make all the difference and I would be happy to help you create that special piece of art that is a one-of-a kind treasure.
Here is a breakdown of the process:
Schedule a consultation:
Begin by contacting me to provide a brief description of the portrait or sculpture that you have in mind. You may photos of your subject and of anything connected to she sculpture. Preliminary rough sketches will be available to discuss ideas for the creative process. Please inquire if you are curious
Photos: Send high-quality photos that include a front, profile, and 3/4 view of the subject's head and shoulders. Ideal photos capture their personality or reflect the depth in their eyes. Additionally, if you have photos in nature, or in candid poses, these will be beneficial. You can start with a couple of images, and we can determine if any additional shots are needed to proceed.
Consutations: Your first deposit will cover the artists time invested in creating sketches, a consultation and materials for the beginning stages of the sculpture coming to life. The second deposit will cover sculpting time in the studio, another consult and a review. Finally, Once we reach the near-completion stage in clay, you will have the opportunity to review the clay sculpture before a mold is made and it is cast into its final medium. At this point another payment will be due.
Mold making, casting and patina: The next steps involve creating the mold and casting the sculpture. This process includes refining any imperfections and shim lines. Complex figures may require additional time and attention during this phase. After casting, the final patina will be applied. Multiple patina options are available, and examples can be viewed on the website.
